Developed by British scientists for the VLT (very large telescope), the CCD200 detector is the world's fastest and most sensitive astronomical camera—capable of shooting an astonishing 1500 images per second.
"This breakthrough camera is without an equivalent anywhere in the world," says Norbert Hubin, head of the Adaptive Optics for ESO space agency. "The camera will enable great leaps forward in many areas of the study of the universe." - The images are said to be only 240 x 240, but the images from the ground could be as crisp as those taken from space.
