Rick Ross responds to 50, the battles continues...

I'm not usually into rap soap opera's, so if some of yall are upset that I'd delve into the controversy in the wake of more serious economic realities, I understand...but 50 cent is a strategist in music and these rap beefs tend to define the way the rap game can change sometimes, so I only watch the biggest stars go at it. Evaluate the situation: Ross said in this clip that 50 recruited his babymama, so he's implying that he had foreknowledge of this happening, lets see if 50 gets the babymama to deny that. This can get really ugly. Second point...Ross said in this clip that his babymama didn't make more then 300 dollars a week, and that she'd jump at the chance to make money with 50. Would Rick Ross really put his child's mother out there like that, when he could have paid her off himself and limited 50's resources in this war...doesnt make sense to me. Unless they both want this battle...makes you think sometimes.

Hmmm, I'd know a little something about video quality...and this video looks a bit lower budget for someone whose sitting on "20 million". And I remember Ross straight lying for like 2 months about him being a C/O Officer awhile back. His track Hustlin was the only track from him I liked. The hook got me. Jay-Z on the Maybach Music and Hustlin remix was the shit. I wouldnt co-sign this chest bearing video though, he's on some Jabba the Hut shit...I dont know Ross...I dont know...lol

Taylor Swift reigns over the soundscan

Taylor Swift, pictured here, held at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart this week with 262,000 sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was the album’s third consecutive week at No. 1, and fourth over all since it was released in November. Beyoncé’s “I Am ... Sasha Fierce” (Columbia) reached No. 2 with 211,000, Britney Spears’s “Circus” (Jive) was No. 3 with 203,000, and Nickelback was fourth with 177,000 sales of “Dark Horse” (Roadrunner). Kanye West’s “808s & Heartbreak” (Def Jam) jumped six spots to No. 5 with 165,000 sales. Billboard reported that 47.7 million songs were downloaded last week, a record for a single week. The most popular download last week was Lady GaGa’s “Just Dance,” with 419,000.

Kardinal Offishall - one of Canada's finest

Among us insiders in the artistic community and "industry types" here in the city of Toronto, there's alot of talk about who could be the next king of T.O; much like how New Yorkers debate on who is New York City's greatest lyricist. Without question, undeniably this was Kardinal Offishall's shining year within the ranks of Toronto's finest. But there is another generation of Toronto hip hop hopefuls all bidding for the same position; and their eyes have watched Kardi's ascension lately with close interest. Some of them have even asked us what we thought of Kardi, and my answer has always been the same; that it was his time to shine because he was among those whose work was meant to pay off...too many people had invested in Kardinal, so his eventual break was inevitable. But that effort on his part couldn't have come at a more less opportunistic time in music. Kardi sold approximately 11,869 copies of his latest album in the United States, in its first week of release. It debuted on the Billboard 200 at #40. In Canada, it debuted at #8 on the Canadian Albums Chart, with 4,247 copies sold in the first week, and was also the #1 R&B/Hip-Hop album in the country. Those are the numbers...and numbers don't lie. If Kardi was expected to sell atleast 10 percent of what was sold in the United States here in Canada then the math would suggest that he had done well - 11,869 x .10 = 1,187, again Kardinal sold 4,247 which is almost 3 times that number. An even greater breakdown further shows us that 58 percent (2.463) of the sales mentioned above did come from Ontario and I wonder which province followed after Ontario, cause it's always good to know where sales come from. Estimating fairly Kardinal has about 35,500 more albums to sell in order for Kardinal to get a gold album certification.



Kardi's "Dangerous" single debuted at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it has peaked as high as number 5, so his single with Akon not only sold well but had lasting power. The album continues to recieve generally favourable reviews from music critics.

My Boy Kanye puts the Gun to Gun's N Roses

Two weeks ago, it seemed like the #1 position on Billboard's weekly albums sales chart could have gone to either Guns or Kanye West. The Gun's N Roses album Chinese Democracy was released on November 23, and West's 808s & Heartbreak dropped November 24. It was a battle that pitted one of hip-hop's biggest stars against one of rock's most enigmatic ringleaders, and in the end, GN'R just couldn't contend. When Nielsen SoundScan issued the latest national album sales data on Wednesday (December 3), it was West's latest at #1, opening with sales of more than 450,100, leaving Guns N Roses who performed at 261,200 copies its first week out at #3. Country singer Taylor Swift ended up grabing that #2 slot instead. Trailing in the ranks are Beyonce at #4 and Ludacris at # 5. A good week for Hip Hop...and while Kanye's single might be called Love Lockdown...it's seeming more like a Music Lockdown, and Kanye's got it locked...
