Inside or Outside the Box?
The greatest socio-political experiment to have ever happened in decades, possibly generations is unfolding right now with little to no public awareness from hoards of unsuspecting citizens. That socio-political experiment is the Obama Vs Palin experiment, the cardinal differences between these two is something I shall get into a little later on in this blog.
Right now as you are reading this: YOU are existing in a world within a universe that is changing every second of the day, but while these cosmic forces are at work, you are also living in a world steeped in racial and ideological ignorence. While this continues to be the reality, the conciousness of millions, perhaps billions is taking a step backwards. I've always put it this way; while some people are doing the moonwalk, others are walking on the moon, while some people are clowning, others are busy cloning, while you care about Sony Playstations others are building space stations.
Recently in news reports, scientists were said to have gotten closer to the discovery of unrecorded particles, and closer to discovering what the mysterious dark matter is which fills most of the universe. Scientists are recreating miniature black holes in controlled environments. Scientists are smashing atoms at speeds close to the speed of light, generating fireballs 300 million times hotter then the surface of the sun. What they've recreated are the conditions of the big bang when it was very young, in fact just a fraction of a billionth of a second after it was born. They've achieved this within a 5 billion dollar atomic accelerator constructed deep underground in a 27-kilometre-long tunnel beneath the Swiss-France border.
I have often sat and wondered about whether my existence is a relevant contribution to civilization? One can't help but think that when one hears about the remarkable things being done in our lifetime. While I may be remotely aware of what is being discovered by the earth's finest, I am also aware of what so many millions of people shut their eyes to.
People shut their eyes to the disparities that exist between the different racial groups, and it has never been more evident to me then in the comparisons one can draw up from the Sarah Palin and Barack Obama comparison. While most citizens have accepted the candidacies of a female presidential candidate or a black president, there will always be that element that hates the possibilty of a black president, and this has been shown to be factual.
Since the inception of Barack Obama's campaign he has been plagued with the inexperienced factor, the "he's an undercover Muslim" factor, the "elitism" factor, and these arguments couldn't have been more laughable to me until Sarah Palin was chosen to be Mccain's 2nd in command. Never mind that the life expectancy of an American Male is 77.6 years, and Mccain is 71, and at 71 you couldn't be a commercial airline pilot or even a judge in some states but you could evidently be president. Without question his age does raise the stakes for his Vice President should he die on the job, is she really THAT QUALIFIED? What Mccain and Palin get away with, Obama could never get away with, and this blog attempts to go into how both whites and blacks in America have different standards of exceptance.
1) Palin's daughter can get pregnant at seventeen and everyone is quick to insist that her life and that of her family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge her or her parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.
2) Palin attended four different colleges in six years (one of which she basically flunked out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions her intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas if a person of color did this he/she would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action.
3) Palin claims that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be vice-president, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you’re “untested.”
4) Palin can be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of her. If Obama were a gun touting President...it would be OVER, blacks and guns are a No No.
5) Palin's husband was a member of an extremist political party that wanted her state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was “Alaska first,” and no one questions her patriotism or that of her family, but if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.
6) Palin has made fun of Obama's Chicago community organizing days and the work he has done - like, galvanize community groups and church groups against poverty, his fight for asbestos removal from certain neighbourhoods, his civil rights legislations and struggles for the poor and disenfanchised. But if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college--you’re somehow being mean.
7) Palin has attended churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.
8) I also love how the Republicans have all of a sudden discovered sexism in the media, Because they didn't see any of it when it was being directed at Hillary Clinton. But once Sarah Palin got a dose of it, they were all over it, now they wanna accuse Obama of masculinist tendencies because he questions her as they had questioned his experience and patriotism.
9) Republican Senator Chuck Hagel says Palin, his party's vice-presidential nominee, lacks foreign policy experience. In the Omaha World-Herald, Hagel says about Palin: "You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything." McCain and other Republicans have defended Palin's qualifications, citing Alaska's proximity to Russia. Palin told ABC News: "They're our next-door neighbours and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Hagel took issue with that argument. "I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia'," he said. "That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."
Stupidity is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, all because American voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain…
QUESTION: Can a Government that is already in mounting debt continue to keep bailing out company after company? At this pace we may never know if America will even last past the decade...Bearsterns, Freddie and Fannie Mae, AIG, who is next?
