As world leaders gather in Toronto for the G20 summit, there is news already about protesters occupying a gas station as they march through downtown Toronto this afternoon. Toronto is a very large city and I can only imagine the traffic jams that will be caused as a result of this summit. The global financial crisis doesn't seem to be waining on the city's ability to afford the rising cost for "security" (I put that in quotations because that's relative depending on who you ask; some see this Police force as a force of massive intimidation) 5'100 uniformed officers already with boots on the ground.

Surveillance has been set up at key intersections, road-blocks, security checks (in public parks where people picnic and take a stroll). Very expensive Water Spraying Canons and Long-Range Acoustic Devices (a.k.a - Sound Canons) have been purchased as crowd control measures in the event of a riot (they are to become permanent fixtures in Toronto law enforcement, said police spokesperson Const. Wendy Drummond). This pandemonium is expected to grip my city from June 21st till about the 28th. Teams of reporters are staked out at every major protesting area vying for the juiciest exposes of violence and mayhem if committed. Americans and other tourists have been told to stay away from Toronto (and that's unfortunate because our city really is a great place) and with a billion dollars already spent on security; why shouldn't you feel safe? Right? lol

Anyway...I'm just another blogging Torontonian who isn't liking all of this city-congestion, just so some politicians can get together and discuss things that they're gonna do regardless anyway, whether some of us like it or not. Why don't they take these meetings to some secret underground military installation (like they do in the movies lol). I guess some would say that this is a show of just how transparent these world leaders are, that they'd come out in public and announce there plans for the world (no secrecy).

Lets Keep it Real: what are we being told from what we aren't being told? Wouldn't "national security" be the very reason for why we shouldn't know "everything" (for our own good of course lol).
Let's be honest, power can't afford to tell it's citizens about how power is going to be distributed globally for the next 10 to 15 years, anymore then the coach of a football team can tell you during the super bowl what kind of play there going to run in the final game.
I'm the kinda person who just doesn't think that these world leaders are getting together to discuss anything other then how they can all make some more money.
And that's my 2 cents...
