One of the 100 most prominent people to watch: Dr. V.S. Ramachandran

Via: ramaillusions

Dr. V.S. Ramachandran, is a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, San Diego. Ramachandran, director of the university’s Center of Brain and Cognition, has been called one of the “hundred most prominent people to watch” in the 21st century by Newsweek magazine. Ramachandran’s early work was on visual perception but he is best known for his experiments in behavioral neurology which, despite their apparent simplicity, have had a profound impact on the way we think about the brain.

Dr. Ramachandran has published over 180 papers in scientific journals. Twenty of these have appeared in Nature, and others have appeared in Science, Nature Neuroscience, Perception and Vision Research. He is author of the acclaimed book Phantoms in the Brain that has been translated into nine languages. His more recent book, “The Emerging Mind”, captures the series of distinguished lectures he gave for the BBC and explores the evolutionary and causal relationships between the gift of sight, art and the development of the human mind.
