A Book I'm Reading: Sacred Drift - by Peter Lamborn Wilson (aka Hakim Bey)

Hakim Bey (born Peter Lamborn Wilson in 1945), is an American political writer, essayist, and poet. He did extensive traveling in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Nepal. He studied Tantra in West Bengal and visited many Sufi shrines and masters. In 1971 he undertook research on the Ni'matullahi funded by the Marsden Foundation of New York. Bey has written essays on such diverse topics as Tong traditions, the utopian Charles Fourier, the fascist Gabriele D'Annunzio, alleged connections between Sufism and ancient Celtic culture, sacred pederasty in the Sufi tradition, technology and Luddism, and Amanita muscaria use in ancient Ireland. An interesting author to me.

I've embedded below a lecture by Mr Wilson wherein he discusses the art of Sufi traveling. He focuses on travel in the world of Islam, discussing the history of nomadic travel and tradition. He relates several anecdotes about scholar Ibn Arabi and recites a Sufi traveling song. He continues his discussion on nomads followed by a brief talk about the travels of French poet Arthur Rimbaud. He ends the lecture by discussing the future of travel in general which I found fascinating.

The Akashic Records or the Hall of Records: from the Hindu philosophy of Samkhya

I'm an avid and voracious reader, student of the occult and the ancient mysteries. Tomorrow I explore the mystery of the Akashic Records, which is considered the storehouse of all information for every individual who has ever lived upon the earth, and it is said to be the source from which all famed psychic's and prophets receive many of there remarkable insights. It is derived from the Hindu philosophy of Samkhya (which means 'enumeration' and its influence is felt in Yoga today) it's main aspects are Purusha (consciousness) and Prakriti (the phenomenal realm of matter). Many of us have become TOO attached or over-identified with our past and cannot see the entire forest through the trees. Just like your own eyeball is too close for you to see it, sometimes we need an outer reflection or a great mirror to truly see who we are.

The term Akasha comes from a 5000 year old Sanskrit term which means "hidden library". This secret hall of records (known as the Akashic Records) can be revealed by diving into the subconscious mind in a deep state of meditation. I've always believed that there was an aura to people, an energy field so to speak, something latently present but ominously obscure from the physical senses. Tupac Shakur, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are perfect examples of this phenomenon. They could talk about or hint at their deaths because they could both sense the death in their auras. People who are in tune with their auras and know death is upon them find a solace, contentment, acceptance, and peace. I've also wondered, when small babies are looking at you, their eyes seem to aim slightly above eye contact with you, I've always wondered whether they are looking at your aura.

Many times when babies cry at certain people it's because they see frightening things, e.g. certain energies, in the person's aura. They are not just afraid of the person - how the person looks. It's deeper than that many times. Animals can sense a shifting difference in the magnetic field, can often know when a storm is coming before it does, and there extremely intuitive of the things we take for granted. Through consistent meditation you will learn how to quiet your mind and access your personal Akashic Record through sight, hearing or through a certain "knowingness" in your body. Finding your personal Akashic Record is similar to tuning your car stereo to a particular channel or radio frequency.

"...but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven" - Luke 10:20

Blue Lotus Tea: Sacred among the ancient Egyptians and wise men of the east

So what exactly have you heard about blue lotus? Well blue lotus and sacred lotus, or Nelumbo Nucifera is very popular among the Ancient Egyptians, Nubians, Abyssinians, and a bunch of other historical African Civilizations of the ancient world. To the Egyptians this plant represented the sun and rebirth. It was presented at parties, and took on a sacred significance at death. There is little wonder that it became the floral symbol of Upper Egypt, and a flower enjoyed by all people throughout Egyptian history.

Today it has become very popular in modern culture as having mystical powers creating moderate euphoric feelings of love and happiness. The flowers of the blue lily have been found to contain apor-phine, a substance that is closely related to the opiate apomorphine. Many people like to mix the sacred blue lotus with their wine much like the Egyptians. Other blue lotus enthusiasts feel that consuming the sacred flower will give you that much more of euphoria.

The god of the blue water lily was Nefertem, Lord of Perfume. The flowers were not only noted for their delightful perfume by the Egyptians but also for bringing euphoria, and inducing an ecstatic state and stimulation. Many historians thought it was a purely symbolic flower, but now it's also known to give "a sort of Viagra effect" making one more sensual.

Because of the flowers unusual characteristic of opening in the morning and closing in the early evening, they believed the Blue Lotus flower held the key to creation of the universe. The Blue Lotus flower is used as an aid for many ailments as well as for recreational use. Many people buy blue lotus...

- To relieve pain
- To enhance memory
- To increasing circulation
- As a sexual aphrodisiac
- To experience feelings of euphoria and ecstasy

The effects of Blue Lotus are typically mild which is why it is so popular amongst experimenters. Blue Lotus is in no way addictive and is a nice inexpensive way to augment your mood for a nice relaxing weekend. When drinking it myself...I would notice that while in this state of relaxed feeling, I was able to answer for myself honestly some deeply personal questions that had been plaguing me. It was a very liberating experience which took me to a whole new psychological plane.

The Solar Plexus is one of the main power chakras

The Solar Plexus is one of the main power chakras of the individual. Various cords of energy enter and exit from this area for distribution to the various parts of the body. Look what happens when someone knows how to punch you straight in that spot lol. Bear in mind that this is where the "emotional center" is, right in the back of the stomach (where one says they feel butterflies), where the celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, and renal arteries branch from the abdominal aorta.
