Public Speaker: Greg Stielstra - How Social Connection Influences Choice

The digital revolution has enabled latent human inclinations and changed the shape of social connection; transforming the way information, ideas and trends spread. Discover the new paradigm and why, if you want to influence culture, you must begin by influencing your neighbor.

What I gathered from this video is; reaching everyone at the same time will never be as effective as reaching those who've already established a clear evidenced power with what's called "social proof" - in other words hit up everyone whose cool because they'll affect the most amount of "approvals" and the many others who are like them will approve also...lol

You can make a difference, Please Help Haiti (A list of organizations that aren't scams)

Canada's Governor General: (of Haitian Descent)
Michaelle Jean with Barack Obama

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's Haitian-born governor general, Michaelle Jean, broke down in tears as she reflected on the devastation to her native country. Jean is the representative of Queen Elizabeth, Canada's head of state, and said the situation in Haiti had monopolized her attention since the earthquake struck on Tuesday.

"The images and news reports are unbearable to watch -- so much distress, suffering and loss," she told reporters after attending a briefing session with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Harper and Jean were told the Canadian Forces were in the process of arranging for ships, helicopters and relief equipment to be sent to Haiti. A 20-strong military reconnaissance team was already flying in on Wednesday and the military's Disaster Assistance Response Team was being readied to be sent as soon as the advance group says exactly what is needed.

Governments will do what they can, but their are WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

Help Haiti through: The American Red Cross

Help Haiti through: The Mercy Corps

Help Haiti through: The Salvation Army

Researcher tweets using only his mind (fascinating)

Via: WTHITV

MADISON, Wis. - The microblogging site Twitter has been described as the Web’s stream of consciousness. In early April, a biomedical engineering doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison made strides in making it even more so: by posting updates just by thinking about it. The Wisconsin Technology Network News reports that Adam Wilson has updated his tweets by using his brain.

Wilson’s interface for turning thoughts into tweets involves a keyboard displayed on a screen, with each letter flashing individually in sequence. When the letter a subject is looking at flashes, the brain registers a change in what it was paying attention to, which causes a change in the brain’s electrical signals.

Wilson compared the process to sending a text message on a cell phone without a keyboard. “You have to press a button four times to get the character you want, so this is kind of a slow process at first.”Wilson and other researchers on the project hope to develop a way for people immobilized by stroke or spinal cord injury to communicate.

“It’s in tune with what patients want,” Purdue University biomedical engineer Kevin Otto told Wired . “Social networking and communication is really their first desire. There’s been quite a bit of success, and a few demonstrations, helping people to e-mail. But the same reason why people choose Twitter and Facebook over e-mail is the same reason why this is significant.” Wilson’s first Twitter update using the technology was “SPELLING WITH MY BRAIN.”

Oprah and Ashton Kutcher talk Twitter...(and i've been telling you guys to SIGN UP and get ahead of the technology curve)

Today’s Oprah Show features “King of Twitter” Ashton Kutcher, and Ms. Winfrey made her first official foray into the Twitterverse back in January, and since then Oprah had amassed thousands of followers even when she had nothing to say. But with her first message this morning, “HI TWITTERS, THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME, FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY,” the numbers jumped to over 100,000.

"The King of Twitter" Ashton Kutcher made headlines recently when his number of followers beat CNN in the race to 1 million followers, Ashton Kutcher is appearing on today’s Oprah episode to talk about, of course, Twitter, and his charitable work. Also appearing on today’s show is Twitter founder Evan Williams.

How many of Oprah’s loyal fans can we expect to jump on Twitter after today’s show, and are they ready? I think its awesome that Oprah is embracing the technology, and wasting no time in using it to help others so publicly.
