Diddy Talks about his Stint As An "Unsuccessful" Drug Dealer

Via: hiphopwired.com

For Diddy it may have been all about the Benjamins but it wasn't by any means necessary. In his interview with Playboy, he revealed how almost getting popped made him reconsider his “Frank White” and King Of New York dreams.

"Some of my friends were selling drugs in the Maryland and (Washington) D.C. area. I remember them having all this jewelry and new BMWs. I was eating ramen noodles, stealing from the 7-Eleven to get some food. I thought, 'I need to get some money like y'all have.' So I go out on the block, the strip where they're selling drugs, and my man says, 'OK, I'm going to give you this. You wait there. They'll come up to you.'

I'm out there five minutes when three cop cars pull up and officers jump out and start chasing me. I ran and got away. We reconvene in the same place two hours later. This time it's dark, and all of a sudden a van pulls up. Cops jump out and start chasing me again. There's a helicopter overhead with a light following me through the woods.”

Diddy turns 40 (alot of people don't know that he used to manage LL Cool J way back in the day)

Other comments...

“Some people start at 19, [by] 26 they’re done. He’s 40. He’s better than he’s ever been,” Russell Simmons marveled. “He’s hotter now than ever. I just watch him. He keeps getting better. He never changes with the hustle. He branches out in different areas, opens new doors. He’s an inspiration.”

“It’s 4-0. You just get better,” actress Regina King said. “Forty is the new 30; it’s elegant. He wants everybody to be beautiful [at the party]. So the photographs, when he looks back on it 20 years from now, he’ll say, ‘Look how beautiful we were.’ It’s an opportunity to get pretty and throw on pretty dresses.

“I love the way [Diddy]’s evolved,” she added. “I’m glad he’s grown up. Whether he likes it or not, he’s still a role model. You can be a good role model or a bad role model. He’s grown up in a lot of people’s eyes. Those kids who want to be like him, they’re gonna pull up their pants and look to be [in multiple businesses] as opposed to just the rapper.”

So do the industry icons who’ve already past this milestone age have advice to give Mr. Combs?

“The great thing is, he has done so much in 40 years. There’s a lot of advice he can give to other people,” Grammy winner Herbie Hancock said. “There’s so much he’s learned. I hope he continues to do that, continues to grow. I see this path he’s set for himself to expand and continue to grow in various directions. That’s a great inspiration to others.”

Celebs Around The World Show Love For Michael Jackson Via Twitter

Quincy Jones
“I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don’t have the words. Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80’s. To this day, the music we created together on “Off The Wall,” “Thriller” and “Bad” is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I’ve lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him.”

Lindsay Lohan

Puff Daddy: A master at work in promotion of his new fragrance

I see diddy as a true master at what he does...as crazy as this guy can be sometimes, it doesn't matter because he will get on shows like this one and just execute with flamboyant precision.

It was actually a funny interview...

Diddy offers NYC mayor ONE million dollars, Courtesy of Diddy and Ciroc Vodka lol

Marketing Ciroc Vodka

I've missed a ton of these "Diddy Blogs" because the last one I saw was like #26. That is a lot of Diddy wisdom that I missed. Anyways, Diddy out does himself for this one...Diddy offers the city mayor of New York a 10 second - one million dollar deal...What for? to change the New Years Eve Ball to "Ciroc Blue" lol

The Times Square New Year's Eve ball

That ball is a very bright beacon for the throngs in Times Square and the millions of TV viewers around the globe, and Diddy will have to have a very well put together team of indivisuals on the street corners near by to effectually instill those 10 seconds he hopes to ingraine into people's minds with the Ciroc Brand. The preloaded give-away money-cards will create the throngs of people he'd want for the attention.

Diddy is at it again yall...

The Marketing Genius of Diddy

He poses the question to you...

Now I'm gonna break it down for all of the marketing types who are just like me. If you decide to come up with your own fragrance one day, it would be good to take a mental note of how Diddy does it...if you've read the ingredients list for I AM KING you'd crack a little smile (atleast I did) it reads a little something like this:

Cranberry, "a proprietary Imperial French berry note", premium Champagne-crème de cassis-kir royale, cooling Mediterranean water, key lime pie, and lemon cream. Other, more ordinary notes include, tangerine zest, orange, labdanum, cedarwood, vetiver, white moss (white musk?), and sandalwood.

However, after smelling I Am King, I think either Combs is trying to fool us or has been fooled himself by Estée Lauder’s perfume team of Karyn Khoury and Trudi Loren, because there’s certainly no discernible champagne (sparkle), labdanum (depth), crème de cassis (liquor-y richness) or sandalwood (or any real wood) in this fragrance, but it sure is worded nice isn't it? LOL

Scenes from his website: seanjohn-iamking.com

Irregardless of what I think...Combs is a king when it comes to marketing and self promotion; first-year sales of I Am King are expected to exceed $100 million globally. My only criticism with the marketing approach is that the ads could come across as being out of touch with the current economy, Combs maintains that it is an “affordable indulgence.” It will go into broader general release in February of 2009; and the I Am King Eau de Toilette is about $54-72; bath and body products are also available.

The Black Bond...Master Teacher Diddy!!!

Branding for Sean John's new Fragrance
I AM KING

Diddy will appeal to aspiring men with this new fragrance, images of power and grandeur couldn't have been more vivid with images of Combs on his 178-foot superyacht floating in the French Riviera. In the next scene he's cuddling with supermodels Bar Rafael and Ana Paula while dressed in a tuxedo. He parts the azure waters of the Mediterranean on a Jet Ski. He rides in a Helicopter and then shows up to the craps table in Monte Carlo’s Casino de Paris. The video above was a reported $750,000 dollar venture project, the destinations, the people hired etc.

The images in the video depict P. Diddy as “the ultimate man of power" and the narration by Diddy conveys in an almost inspirational video kind of way. I thought the promotional video (above) was well put together. The new scent is expected to gross a near $100 million, a follow up to his previous popular fragrance, Unforgivable.

I Am King will hit Macy’s department stores in December and is set to go worldwide in February. Diddy is also planning for the ladies’ version of the fragrance called I Am Queen in 2009. The Mogul says: “If I say, ‘I am not going to succeed, I’m a loser,’ then that’s what I am going to be,” said Diddy about the names of the scents. “If we say we’re kings and we say we’re queens, that’s what we’re going to be. It has nothing to do with being arrogant.”

I believe...therefore I am...

I AM KING...
