There is a centuries-old proverb that's still remembered and upheld by a very small minority who believe that discretion is a form of wisdom. For Spring 2011, designer Jeff Staple and his Staple Design outfit introduces that very maxim in the shapes of well-formed styles. A composition of mostly outerwears and shirting, the collection highlights design details rather than the presumptuous patterns – the taped seams found on the inside of the Gondry Tech Jacket, the buttoned sleeve pocket of West Button Shirt, or the Bogart Cargo Pants’ camouflaged cuff. Every piece features the ubiquitous copper “staple” and its own collection tab as a reminder, that sometimes, silence speaks volumes.

Tattooed Gloves by Ellen Greene

The Tat­tooed gloves explores the con­trast between two oppos­ing tra­di­tions. The vintage leather gloves func­tion as a fem­i­nine arti­cle of cloth­ing and tra­di­tional tat­too as a mas­cu­line artform. The gloves evoke a sense of purity, mod­esty and for­mal­ity. In oppo­si­tion the tat­too can sug­gest sex­ual free­dom, rebel­lion and crim­i­nal­ity. The ten­sion between the object and the image cre­ates a beauty that is both androg­y­nous and non-traditional.

Footwear Designer Edmundo Castillo: TRON inspired

Tron’ inspired light-up shoes by Edmundo Castillo



Footwear designer Edmundo Castillo has produced a pair of LED light-up sandals to pay homage to the latest Hollywood blockbuster “Tron: The Legacy”. Made from the same electroluminescent material used for the costumes in the film, the “Light Sandals” will be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,650 from February 1. The Puerto Rican designer is a footwear industry veteran and formerly worked for the venerable Italian brand Sergio Rossi.

Other similar mentions: Tron Legacy” has also inspired a suite in the Ice Hotel in the Swedish town of Jukkasjärvi that is outfitted with futuristic, glow-in-the-dark neon decor. Eyewear company Oakley also produced special 3D glasses to celebrate the release of the film. Rendered with signature Oakley style, the new “Tron” Limited Edition 3D Gascan ($150) is accented with graphics that salute the cinematic story.

An independent fashion designer from Toronto by the name of Bryan Espiritu is a name well known to Torontonians who are possessed with that extra unusual flare for fashion's twist on things. His creative take on fashion has won him others from around the world who spread the word about his designs. He creates concepts that have within them deeper messages, that are brought to the forefront, and it's become a trademark style that I can honestly say is his marquee signature. I've been an admirer of his technical skill and I can easily state that he is a household Toronto name as far as dope gear goes within Toronto's artistic community.

Below is the Nollege Tee Concept...which is a twist from the word College, and it's just the right amount of defiance without seeming too revolutionary. It's definately the kind of T-shirt that's bound to get attention, and it was worthy of a post because it's something I wanna buy.

Tennis legend and brand founder Rene Lacoste invents “L.12.12“

Tennis legend and brand founder of Lacoste, Rene Lacoste reached out to various legends from various disciplines, ranging from music (Jazzy B, Sebastien Tellier and Stones Throw), to design (Christophe Lemaire, Tim Hamilton and ato), and unto media (Shoes Master, Sneaker Freaker and i-D) and also retail stores (Colette, Bodega and D-Mop). Various sneaker models were redesigned in the signature style of the collaborating brands, and each sneaker is individual and unique. Online store FLAUGE is currently taking pre-orders of the sneakers, which are scheduled for release in mid December.

I've got a jacket that would go perfect with these kicks...

Fashion: PHENOMENON – Stadium Jacket

The Stadium jacket, better known in the US as the varsity jacket, is a staple item in most people's wardrobes. A brand called PHENOMENON has taken the spirit of the stadium jacket and given it a slight twist to alter it visually.



The all black jacket uses a mix of real cow hide, polyester, cotton, wool and rope for what's become a really unique look. Leather shoulders, sleeves and pockets are classic varsity jacket styling. However, with the addition of ropes on the shoulders and use of wool and boa on the body, the jacket gets an interesting makeover. A patch of studs on the left chest accents the front and the quilted inner lining makes this jacket warm and functional as well. Pretty dope I thought...

Disney meets Casio: Mickey Mouse G-Shock DW-5600

Japanese jewelery brand Jam Home Made worked with Disney and Casio to produce some custom designed watches. The dial graphics looks like a retro toy watch for children and the simple illustration style adds an unique feel that have not been pursued by DW-5600 or any other G-Shocks in the past. With all other details blacked out, the watch almost does not look like a G-Shock from afar.

The LCD back lighting have been modified to light up in red Mickey icon. These will be released around early September and SHIPS JET BLUE's online store is currently taking pre-orders.
