Summer 2010 - Dior Homme & Maison Martin Margiela (High-Fashion Footwear)

Via: maisonmartinmargiela.com

Maison Martin Margiela - Spring/Summer 2010 - Sneakers

This season, Maison Martin Margiela designs leans on retro shapes, simple shades and strong concepts. The stand out pair for me were the oki-ni white leather slip-on sneakers. The white slip-ons come with a medical touch as they are inspired by the simple white slip-ons worn in medical environments such as hospitals. The upper is crafted from an all-over white large grain leather with matching white stitching and textured rubberized grey sole. Definitely stripped to the bare essentials and unadorned, these sneakers are definitely choice footwear for the quirky sneaker purists who enjoy a good back-story but can do without ostentatious coloring.

Kris Van Assche may champion less is more, but he does not skimp on sophistication just because things are kept clean with a cool minimalist attitude. The Artistic Director of Dior Homme has been winning the hearts and minds of sneaker purists over with uncluttered shapes and classic palettes. This black sneaker not only plays with straps, laces and eyelets, it also plays with contrasting texture by mixing leather with suede and what seems like ballistic nylon. The only pop of color comes from the heel panel that mixes khaki with white.

Before stepping down: Maison Martin Margiela creates the Martin Margiela Suite

Via: maisonmartinmargiela.com

Despite rumors which had been traversing around for months, it was finally announced earlier this month that Belgian designer, Martin Margiela, has quietly left his handiwork, fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. While most fashion houses sought out new creative directors to carry on the vision of its founder, Maison Martin Margiela will be venturing off on a different path, not appointing a replacement but to leave the fashion house’s visions to its existing creative staff that was built by Margiela himself.

Before the designer officially departed from his creation, Maison Martin Margiela continued to wash the world bit by bit with their signature shade of white. Other than a collection of furniture and “white objects” home ware, the designer had also worked with hotel/spa, Les Sources de Caudalie to create a special all-white Martin Margiela suite, which reopened last week. The signature suite is a freestanding cabana situated by a beautiful pond, available for stay at 650 euros a night.

The suite’s design is iconic of Margiela, working a burnished white and grey palette, contrasting simple, modern silhouettes with deconstructed archaic looks of Haussmanian walls. White calfskin rugs litter the floor and pillows are stitched to walls to form a large, mural-sized headboard; and a mirrored, reflective coffee table reminiscent of Robert Morris’ Untitled installation of mirrored cubes. While the space is generally white with a disconcerting sense of fabrication (bathroom tiles are photo-printed pebbles) to be slightly ghostly, pops of color injects an interesting wave of energy into the space, in form of a pop-arty flaming red hot lips sofa. Other than enjoying a space curated and crafted by Margiela, 650 euros a night will buy you a special Martin Margiela package including gift signed by the designer, and of course healing times at the spa.

Photographer Xevi Muntané: A Crash Course in Couture

Via: Xevi Muntane

Xevi Muntané, a native of Barcelona Spain, has shot many amazing editorials for magazines such as Spanish VOGUE, German GQ Style, French Playboy, Dazed and Confused and the list goes on and on. He has also shot many celebrities such as Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham, Jada Pinkett Smith and so many more. I think Muntané to be a true artist who brings out the beauty of his subjects with every frame.

Fila's 70’s classic fitness model, Japanese fusion.

I used to be a Fila-head back in the day...

I almost like anything that is a japanese fusion product when it comes to Hip Hop couture and fashion. Fila gets together with Japanese brand Product on their classic 70’s Fitness model. The sneaker comes in a black suede/black croc colorway with minor Gucci details around the ankle. The Fila logo appears as a gold print on the heel and on the tongue flap. The Fila x Product 70’s Fitness will be released February 14th.

Japanese Hip Hop Culture - Market Product of the Month - Flip The Script Clothing

Flip The Script - Official Site

Click picture to enlarge, the details are immaculate...

What we have here is a special collaborative varsity jacket made by three brands: Flip The Script (Japan), Selector (in LA), and Foreign Family (in LA). I personally liked the black version over the blue one they have because of the way the features stand out more clean on the black leather sleeves. The jacket has a black torso, and charcoal grey trim such as on the shoulder panel and the striped ribbing at the collar, wrist cuffs, and waist follow the same color patterns. Most of the artwork and graphics and logos are done in black, white, and grey, and there's a beautiful logo embroidery at the front right, above a woven patch with all three brand names, an embroidered chenille graphic of praying hands at the front left, a printed patch on the left sleeve at the shoulder, and another woven patch at the left wrist, Flip The Script patches on the right shoulder, and best of all, a large chenille & felt skull across the back, by MR44 Brand who incorporated the names of the three brands into the graphic skull. Soft black nylon lining inside. NOTE: It fits about a half size small, so you might want to consider buying a size larger than usual...it's BEAUTIFUL.

Japan is keeping Hip Hop alive...

Clothing Store: Multi Toronto, is a gem in the city of Toronto. The store specializes in fashions for the independent unique personalized dresser. Their staff helps you track down the newest and most influential street style trends and explains them in commercial terms. I found them to be extremely knowledgeable about trends, and their clothing selections spanned from North American urban to Asian urban. And I found out later that they promote trendy parties as well...contact them or visit their store, you're sure to find something you'd like. Their website is www.multitoronto.ca, but that site is currently under construction; and their sister-site/franchise in Asia has a website that is comparable to what they'd have in their toronto store. Visit that site: Multi Seoul - for fashions they carry.

Crooks & Castles and the Notorious B.I.G Premier...

Crooks and Castles T-Shirt

Jim and Juelz give away free tickets to the premier of Biggie's Movie in Harlem.

Jim says: “I did it for hip-hop. And for me it’s as big as Obama being the first black president. This is part of our history in the urban community; and Biggie was like our first Obama.”

Juelz says: “This is my way of saying thank you to Big. I never got a chance to meet him, so this is me as a Harlem dude saluting a cat from Brooklyn, in a small but meaningful way. Jim and I figured that so many people in the hip-hop community would be going to the see the movie individually; if we can make it so that everyone sees it together, that’s a great thing.”

This movie is expected to be really BIG...
