Air Jordan Spiz’ike - “Grape” | Detailed Images

The Air Jordan 5 (V) “Grape” colorway was one of the original four colorways of the famed model originally released in 1990. When the retro was released in 2006 at select accounts, it was mayhem in some locations. Spike Lee was rocking this model courtside at the Garden, and it will now be available in April. The hybrid Spiz’ike model will don the “grape” colorway and it carries with it the embroidered “23″ on the heel. On this model, elephant print is on the heel and toe, patent appears on the underlay, and a newly-employed material–perforated leather–adorns the upper. Grape appears on the lacelocks and outsole. This may not capture the original essence of the Air Jordan V (5) that is now 20 years old, but it is an interesting take on the Spiz’ike.

Maison Martin Margiela - Spring/Summer 2010 - Sneakers
This season, Maison Martin Margiela designs leans on retro shapes, simple shades and strong concepts. The stand out pair for me were the oki-ni white leather slip-on sneakers. The white slip-ons come with a medical touch as they are inspired by the simple white slip-ons worn in medical environments such as hospitals. The upper is crafted from an all-over white large grain leather with matching white stitching and textured rubberized grey sole. Definitely stripped to the bare essentials and unadorned, these sneakers are definitely choice footwear for the quirky sneaker purists who enjoy a good back-story but can do without ostentatious coloring.

Kris Van Assche may champion less is more, but he does not skimp on sophistication just because things are kept clean with a cool minimalist attitude. The Artistic Director of Dior Homme has been winning the hearts and minds of sneaker purists over with uncluttered shapes and classic palettes. This black sneaker not only plays with straps, laces and eyelets, it also plays with contrasting texture by mixing leather with suede and what seems like ballistic nylon. The only pop of color comes from the heel panel that mixes khaki with white.

The designer mostly presents high tops, aside from one low top, and continues to play with the panels, rather than the materials and colors. The sneakers come in black, white and grey colorways, also featuring some interesting lacing. In terms of materials the designer mostly uses premium leather and suede and all sneakers come in tonal colorways.

Nike’s latest Air Maxim; the original intended successor of Air Max, the Nike Air Max Light. Air Max Light was first released in the late 1980s and successfully reissued in 2007. This year, the iconic shoe that weighed a lot less than its predecessor with a phylon midsole is remade in a sleek black with grey accents. The well-loved original mesh toe box is kept on the new colorway, set off with max orange accents on the tongue tag, hardware and outsoles.

As we hit the unrelenting heat of mid-summer, I can’t get enough of basic white sneakers that will look cool with anything from shorts to light pants. This pair of classic white slip-ons from VANS fits just the bill for simple kicks to throw on with t-shirts and shorts. The shoes feature a quilted canvas upper, giving it an interesting detail. An interesting design popped up in Creative Recreation’s new Italian Collection for Fall 09. The LA-based footwear company has incorporated an innovative removable upper zipper design which allowed the wearer to convert his hi-top into a boat shoe sneaker and vice versa. Other than an added functionality, the collection stays classy in a basic color palette of black, white and browns, with premium leather upper of different treatments. These kicks from the Italian Collection are due to drop in August at BLENDS.

The partnership between trendy New York hotel, The Hotel on Rivington, and DC Shoes continues this summer as the hotel attendees receive a new set of footwear for the season.
Designed to compliment the hotel staff’s uniform, designed by Ted Baker London, and the hotel’s futurist interior by Marcel Wanders. The all red DC Shoes Admiral High, the 3rd edition from the Rivington x DC collaboration, features a perfect mix of suede, mesh, leather, and perforated leather. All in a eye-catching red palette. Emerica x Pontus ALV Tope Sneakers

Emerica gets together with artist and skateboarder Pontus ALV to collaborate on a sneaker called The Emerica Tope Pontus ALV. The sneakers come in a light grey colorway and features turquoise accents and lining. Pontus ALV paya tribute to his father, who has already passed away. Los Angeles Rioting: NBA championship an excuse to Riot?

There have been previous times in history where riots were ‘authentic instances of rage’ [via OJ Simpson trial + Rodney King heightened racial tensions etc], or when looting was justified [via Hurricane Katrina], but last night the riots taking place in Los Angeles were ‘acts of greed’/'dumb ppl who value ‘kewl shit’ too much.
Some rioters were so proud of rioting, they used their iPhones and uploaded pics to twitpic live from the carnage in L.A.
A perfect picture that paints American consumerism to a tee...
