Miguel Jardine: CEO of VermiSoks, Worm Wine, a system for growing organic produce

Via: vermisoks.com

The world is confronted by a myriad of problems. When is somebody going to do something? I want to introduce you to someone who is doing something...Miguel Jardine, founder and CEO of VermiSoks, talks about Worm Wine, a system for growing organic produce in harsh environmental conditions.

NO DIGGING!

NO TILLING!

NO AMENDING!

NO WATER!

VermiSoks uses a bit of technology to enhance Nature. The VermiSoks system is a virtuous cycle of green that converts consumable food by-products into lush organic growth. The system is beautiful in its simplicity and provides exponential benefit to all parties involved.

Essentially how it works: The virtuous cycle

1) Fruit, vegetable and food scraps are collected from restaurants, hotels and homes. The food waste is processed to produce gallons of VermiSoks Worm Wine™

2) Worm Wine is applied to VermiSoks – photodegradable mesh tubes – where they harness the power of earthworms to create nutrients to grow organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

3) When ready, the crop is harvested and made into tasty dishes. Whatever is left over re-enters the cycle to close the gap on hunger and generate health and wealth for our planet and for us.

The Gunbrella - Something The Joker would use against Batman...lol

Via: www.gunbrella.co.uk

This is the right weapon to fend off mother nature, it has a pop gun style that goes BANG! and the graphic is printed on the canopy. The Gunbrella is a real £10.99 (~$18) product that looks like one of those pop-guns with the flag that comes out; that the Joker would point at Batman. Except it's an umbrella. But it does have an auto-open "trigger" so you can still aim it at people and scare them.

NEW INDUSTRY STANDARD: Adidas enters into the Augmented Reality phenomenon

Via: wired.com

Taking on the now industry standard concept in the games field of augmented reality, Adidas has created a virtual 3-D world that can be accessed using a future line of five men’s sneakers. Users need to visit the adidas site and hold up their sneaker to their webcam; and the shoe will feature a code implanted in the tongue which will allow a virtual world to pop up and be navigated through, using the sneaker itself. Adidas will continue the project and present three games (one based on music, one on star wars and the other is a skating game) each developed by xForm. The shoes with the augmented reality codes will cost between $65 and $95 and will be available starting February.

More on this technology, read HERE

Donald Draper of Mad Men: This picture conveys how I feel...

I came across this picture while surfing online, and it's a picture of the television series character Donald Draper from "Mad Men". I'm a fan of the show (Mad Men and the TV show Entourage are the only TV show's I'll watch) because their relative to the field I work in where we take unambiguous marketing problems and solve them. Lately I've come across some inspirational client briefs that are fantastic; and once their developed I feel that these ideas will make enormous waves of change.

The only 3 things that are on my mind in 2010:

‘Increase brand awareness’
‘Launch my product into the market’
‘Make people love and engage with my brand’

Anyone who can do those three things will be successful. In a lot of ways today's professional marketing departments have changed the relationships that agencies have had with client organizations and the roles that they play for them. I'm feeling very good about the projects that I have heaped upon my desk for this coming new year, because I am getting more intrinsically involved, more emotionally attached, and I'm putting the feeling that you see in that dominant pose above into everything that I do.

Wi-SKY's new inflight internet service running at 45Mbps

Via: Flight Global.com

A company called Wi-SKY Inflight is making claims that it can change aviation history after demonstrating for execs "a radio that delivered 35-45 Mbps to an aircraft at 54 miles from the station radio".
45Mbps is a lot faster than any of the current in flight internet services.

Key quote:

During the flight last Tuesday, airline representatives plugged in multiple computers and simultaneously made Skype video calls, previewed iTunes online, viewed a web cam of their kitchen back home, played numerous YouTube videos, downloaded an 8.8 MByte email attachment in a few seconds, viewed smooth-flowing video preview trailers and logged onto their VPN at their office. These tasks are simply not possible with the current slow DSL link that the airlines are offering today.

Star Wars Chess Set: it demonstrates warfare as an art form

Via: BB Gadgets

For those who commend war, Star Wars is an interesting chess set that demonstrates warfare as an art. Blending luxury and punk aesthetics, the Star Wars thematic chess set features a glass-etched board with Death Star imagery and 32 collectible chess figures leafed in silver and gold. Playing a legitimate game on the board while manipulating the famous Star Wars characters with your fingers might be the designer’s obsession, this could be another valuable addition to the list of unusual chess set designs you might already have.

The Star Wars Chess Set is available for $539.

Robotics will help those with degenerative muscle diseases

Ironman is a real concept (without the flying of course lol)

This robotic body suit is called "The HAL" stands for (Hybrid Assistive Limb). The robot suit is going into mass production and will be available in Japan sometime soon for around $4,200.

It has the ability to grant its wearer tenfold strength increases during specific actions. It could very well change the lives of people with degenerative muscle diseases, or accident victims who would otherwise need long, difficult rehabilitative therapy to regain basic mobility. And with a five-hour battery life, it could be quite practical for day to day use.

Products like this exoskeleton have a frustrating tendency to remain in the labs and universities that spawned them, usually for reasons of impracticality or cost. But this one is going mainstream

What I think: I think rich people are going to have RoboCop fantasies with this suit and I'd hope that atleast importance is placed on giving a dystrophic child his legs back, rather then just selling to the mass public.

"Get Janet" also known as Janet Han is a very recession proof lady...

In economics, the term recession describes the reduction of a country's gross domestic product. A Toronto native by the name of Janet Han, a professed shopaholic and industry known fashionista has just the kind of product people would want during such times, something better for less. In the heart of Toronto, located inside Moda at 632 Queen St. W is a very trendy shop called “Fashionably Yours” - a consignment shop that sells second-hand designer clothes and streetwear only a season or two old.

Janet Han says this of her shop: "It's the type of business that really booms during a recession," says Han of selling strictly current, gently used clothing. "I've been planning and researching for five years. I found consignment boutiques either cater toward older wealthy women or budget-conscious families, but there was nothing for young, trendy, hip fashionistas." More about her shop can be read HERE in this article in the Toronto Star.

The 2 points of notable mention that caught my attention was this: (150 items in the shop come from her personal closet), and she also wants to offer recessionistas a place where they could make some money and instantly update their wardrobe (Anything that doesn't sell within three months is returned to the consigner or donated to a local women's shelter) - this was a very strong selling point in as far as her brand is concerned and it's a very community integrated idea from a woman whose bound to be a force in this particular niche market. 2nd point of observation was: her website www.fashionably yours.ca, it's design approach is blog-oriented, which shows how in tune she is with the modern era, business is going to be run in this industry via blog-website format because it is simple yet informative, and also adaptable to mobile and email related alert systems.

We'l be watching this turn into a Toronto success-story and possibly a franchise.
