Dubai wants to build a Carbon Neutral Pyramid that can House 1 Million people

Every time I hear Obama (or any other American President) talk about how American innovation is the best in the world, how America is the greatest country on the face of the planet, the most free, the most technologically advanced, the most democratic, the most ingenious; I seriously start laughing because those lines would only work on Americans who've never travelled much. Or as George Carlin (R.I.P) said it, it's only called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Countries like Dubai (with there Petro dollars ironically) want to build what only the Mayans and Egyptians constructed; incredible feats of architecture able to weather the test of time. A pyramid built to be a city, a metropolis with a carbon-neutral super-structure interlaced with a transportation system that would run vertically and horizontally alleviating any need for cars. They also claim that it will be capable of running completely off the grid by utilizing steam, wind, and other natural resources.

Back in 2008 Dubai-based environmental design firm Timelinks released these eye-catching renderings of the gigantic eco pyramid - aptly named Ziggurat. The ginormous pyramid is expected to cover 2.3 square kilometers and will be able to sustain a “community” of up to 1 million people. Now that's what you call forward thinking, innovation and an advancement in architecture. I can't even imagine the air transfer mechanicals involved with one million in one monolithic building. Let alone the other mechanical systems, sewage etc. with Dubai's weather, in that heat it would take a nuclear powered air conditioner to keep such an installation cool. Where there's money, there's a way!!!

Bitcoin: is a free market currency, cyber-cash is possibly a future monetary solution

Via: www.bitcoin.org

A RUN ON THE BANK is when everyone wants there money at the same time. This happens when it's already too late and the people realize that the value of there money has been devalued (worthless). This happens when the market crashes, consumer confidence plumets and a depression is caused. As things worsen economically during these "recessionary times" I become more and more a fan of free market currencies (or as some people call it 'alternative currency').

To avert the day when another great depression happens; people are creating alternative forms of money that operate outside the reach of "everyday money" and can sometimes become a more popular choice among many in different locales across the country. The money we use everyday is a demonstrably corruptible influence on our society and those who through it's use have positions of power continue to seek, as they always and forever do, the means to endless greed.

There are creative people working on solutions EVERYDAY to help alleviate the problems that the elites have created. By creative people, I don't mean wallstreet, I mean the people who are actively developing "alternative currency". It is sometimes hard for us to imagine just what a truly free market currency might look like. Would it be backed by gold? Silver? Both? Or would the market, driven by the competitive need to provide a safer, more reliable store of value, create an alternative, superior guarantee of trust?

Advocates of a small but fast-growing digital currency network called Bitcoin think they’ve found the answer (or, at the very least, an answer). If it is successful, claim its adherents, this totally-decentralized, peer-to-peer (P2P) currency could supplant the world’s central bank-issued fiat money, potentially providing savvy speculators with an opportunity to cash in on the greatest politically motivated market distortion of our time. But even if this particular currency does not fulfill the hopes and aspirations of its enthusiasts and participants, it has at the very least shown that the free market is ready for the challenge.

Bitcoin: is a limited supply, decentralized digital currency; a free market alternative to state issued notes and coins. Like alot of other Peer-to-Peer (P2P) websites, it's a network of voluntary, free market traders exchanging goods and services across six continents using tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of individual computers and some of the most advanced cyber technology and software coding known to date.

"cyber-cash is better than traditional government-issued or - regulated money, because it is determined by market forces and thus nonpolitical in nature." -- Robert Guttmann, Professor of Economics at Hofstra University, in Cybercash: The Coming Era of Electronic Money, 2003

The Gunbrella - Something The Joker would use against Batman...lol

Via: www.gunbrella.co.uk

This is the right weapon to fend off mother nature, it has a pop gun style that goes BANG! and the graphic is printed on the canopy. The Gunbrella is a real £10.99 (~$18) product that looks like one of those pop-guns with the flag that comes out; that the Joker would point at Batman. Except it's an umbrella. But it does have an auto-open "trigger" so you can still aim it at people and scare them.

Architecture: Solar City Tower - Rio Olympics 2016

Via: www.rafaa.ch

For the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Swiss studio RAFAA propose the competition entry ‘Solar City Tower’ that—packed with solar panels and sustainable features—wants to help make Rio’s Olympic Games the first ever zero-carbon games.

From the brief of the international architecture competition: The project under consideration should be located in the bay of the city of Rio de Janeiro on the Cotonduba Island, which is the obligatory approach for aircraft landing and will comprise a vertical structure which will seek to become a symbol for those arriving in Rio, creating an image potent enough to enable Rio to triumph in its bid to host the summer Olympics in 2016. The challenge, therefore, consists of designing an observation tower which will become a symbol welcoming all those who visit Rio de Janeiro, whether they arrive by air or sea.“

Kanye West – Power: Director Marco Brambilla

Via: nymag.com

Director Marco Brambilla says this about the video: It’s a video portrait of Kanye. It starts with a very tight shot introducing him that’s kind of a reinvention of a neoclassical painting. It pulls back from the shot, without any cuts, and we reveal the video canvas, populated by all these characters who are depicted in various stages of undress and decadence. The iconography comes from Roman iconography, Renaissance iconography, and it connects to the sexuality of the music as well. As we reveal the setting for it, there’s a feeling of a moment of transition for him. A fall from grace, if you will. It visualizes power, and him as the icon as power, and then at the end of the piece it challenges the power that I set up at the beginning. It’s an elliptical piece of storytelling.

Slip-On Shoes: made by Native (I see Nurses wearing these)

Via: Native Shoes

Reminds you of that brand called Crocs, but different!!!

Based out of Canada, a brand called Native cleverly combines the classic sneaker with a footwear silhouette that looks comfortable. The slip-ons seen above are from they're upcoming Fall 2010 season. Our blog is proud of anything that is Canadian and innovative in design, they've got a wide range of colors and styles to choose from, so there should be something for everybody’s taste and needs. I personally see these shoes becoming popular among people in the medical field, the colors match the colors of scrubs worn by nurses, dental assistants etc.

The Nicholas Brothers: the standard for every dancer since

Th Nicholas brothers (Fayard and Harold) were the most talented and innovative dance team of their time and they have set the standard for every dancer since. Gregory Hines once said that if their biography was ever filmed, the dance sequences would have to be computer generated because no one would be able to perform their moves. This is their most famous routine from “stormy weather”.

Augmented reality: a way to expand the real-world

Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with (or augmented by) virtual computer-generated imagery - creating a mixed reality. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally usable. Augmented reality research explores the application of computer-generated imagery in live-video streams as a way to expand the real-world. I can see this sorta thing becoming the surge behind what keeps Magazine print alive. See the video below for a look into what Augmented reality is...

Donald Draper of Mad Men: This picture conveys how I feel...

I came across this picture while surfing online, and it's a picture of the television series character Donald Draper from "Mad Men". I'm a fan of the show (Mad Men and the TV show Entourage are the only TV show's I'll watch) because their relative to the field I work in where we take unambiguous marketing problems and solve them. Lately I've come across some inspirational client briefs that are fantastic; and once their developed I feel that these ideas will make enormous waves of change.

The only 3 things that are on my mind in 2010:

‘Increase brand awareness’
‘Launch my product into the market’
‘Make people love and engage with my brand’

Anyone who can do those three things will be successful. In a lot of ways today's professional marketing departments have changed the relationships that agencies have had with client organizations and the roles that they play for them. I'm feeling very good about the projects that I have heaped upon my desk for this coming new year, because I am getting more intrinsically involved, more emotionally attached, and I'm putting the feeling that you see in that dominant pose above into everything that I do.

British scientists develop ‘brain to brain communication’

Via: telegraph.co.uk

The system, developed by a team at the University of Southampton, is said to be the first technology that would allow people to send thoughts, words and images directly to the minds of others, particularly people with a disability. It has also been hailed as the future of the internet, which would provide a new way to communicate without the need for keyboards and telephones. The scientists claimed the research proved it could eventually be possible to create a system where people sent messages through their thoughts alone, although they conceded it was many years away.

Scientists used “brain-computer interfacing”, a technique that allows computers to analyse brain signals, that enabled them to send messages formed by a person’s brain signals though an internet connection to another person’s brain miles away. According to Dr James, during transmission two people were connected to electrodes that measure activity in specific parts of the brain. The first person generated a series of zeros and ones, where they imagined moving their left arm for zero and right arm for one.

After the first person’s computer recognises the binary thoughts, it sends them to the internet and then to the other person’s PC. A lamp is then flashed at two different frequencies for one and zero, the Times reported. The second person’s brain signals are analysed after staring at this lamp and the number sequence is picked up by a computer. “It’s not telepathy,” Dr James told the paper. “There’s no conscious thought forming in one person’s head and another conscious thought appearing in another person’s mind. “The next experiments are to get that second person to be aware of the information that is being sent to them. For that, I need to get my thinking cap on, so to speak.”
